Street Wise Boulder Mural Festival Announces Artist Lineup, Location Map, and Crowdfunding Campaign To Sustain Public Art and Inclusive Community Building Initiatives

Street Wise Boulder, a one-of-a-kind mural festival uniting communities through art and activism, announces its 2021 mural artist roster of 30 artists representing a diverse mix of established local artists, up and comers, and eleven artists from across the country. Visiting artists Bunnie Riess, Hiero Veiga, Remote, and ChromaJ share ties to Colorado and are returning to create new murals that add to a repertoire of public art projects in the Denver/ Boulder area. Additional traveling artists include RemixUno (MX/NY), JUURI (OK), MJ Lindo & Joshua Lawyer (CA) Few & Far Women (CA), and OG Millie (NY).

Committed to supporting the local artist community, Street Wise is excited to welcome 21 Colorado-based artists, many of whom will install work in Boulder for the first time. Talent includes up-and-coming artists Cya Davis, who recently painted for Black Love Mural Festival, and Zaida Sever, who recently painted a commissioned piece for the MLB Allstar Series. Other notable locals include Ladies Fancy Work Society, who have an installation in the new Denver Meow Wolf “Convergence Station”, and Danielle SeeWalker who recently participated in the Babe Walls mural project and co-curates Creative Nations with artist JayCee Beyale at the Dairy Art Center. Returning artists include Lindee Zimmer, UcSepia, and Chelsea Lewinski who all painted in the inaugural festival in 2019.

“The Mural Festival, held September 5th – September 12th, is a fun and safe cultural arts event that is free and accessible. I can’t wait to see what the artists create with a 2021 mindset. The talent and vision of this year’s lineup are a testament to the power of public art and activism. One of our goals at Street Wise is to bring intentional art to the Boulder community and center fresh perspectives. The 2021 murals will address a wide range of timely social topics including identity, mental health, climate science, native relations, racial justice, and cultural identities” said Street Wise Boulder Founder Leah Brenner Clack.

Go Fund Me— Street Wise Arts launched a GoFundMe campaign to fund the production of the festival and event series. In addition to installing 30 new murals, Street Wise Arts will also host panel discussions on art & activism, spray paint workshops, special movie screenings, and a Street Wise Group Exhibit at the Gallery at the Bus Stop in the NoBo Art District. “We need to raise at least $10,000 to fund the festival events, equipment, sustainable compensation for artists and the festival production team,” said Street Wise Boulder Founder Leah Brenner Clack. “Please give what you can to help us reach our goal.”

For spectators who would like to experience the Street Wise Mural Festival by bike, JD’s Joyrides will offer small group e-bike mural tours that will include new 2021 murals, past murals, and other hidden gems around Boulder. For more information, visit www.streetwisearts.org/events and jdsjoyrides.com. The mural festival will span downtown, across east Boulder, and up through North Boulder. Artists will paint walls of all sizes, some of which will be off-the-beaten-path, and others on high-profile walls, making for a fun mural hunting activity for the public. Visit the Mural Location Map for more information.
