This September, the NoBo Art District puts the spotlight on street art with a season-defining lineup, led by the highly anticipated return of SMiLE at the Bus Stop Gallery. The forthcoming exhibition, To The Moon, is more than a showcase of new work—it is a love letter from a now globally recognized artist back to his hometown of Boulder and the community that has supported him for years.
SMiLE’s last Boulder exhibition was nothing short of a phenomenon, selling out in hours and prompting the artist to create an additional body of work that also sold out at closing. With To The Moon, audiences can expect that same magnetic pull, infused with the gratitude and spirit of an artist reflecting his international rise back onto the city that shaped him.
The excitement begins with a members-only preview on Thursday, September 4 (check-in and cocktail hour 5–6 PM; exhibition opens 6 PM). The public opening follows on First Friday, September 5, welcoming the community into one of the year’s most anticipated art events. Details and RSVP updates are available here → Bus Stop Gallery. The Gallery will be closed until the “member preview”, Thursday evening, and then will open again for First Friday and the exhibit’s public opening.
Building on SMiLE’s momentum, the district is also proud to present two complementary exhibitions that broaden the conversation about the role of street art today.
CLS — an established street artist and global citizen — brings his signature sculptural street art to Boulder, crafted from reclaimed wood and inspired by Bauhaus principles. His layered, geometric reliefs transform overlooked spaces into living works that belong to the people and the environment. This exhibit underscores CLS’s vision: multiple fragments uniting into a harmonious whole.
Justin Ferland, in his exhibit Existencilism, introduces a new voice to the movement. His spray-painted, hand-cut stencils confront the overwhelming noise of modern life while reclaiming presence and dignity for marginalized voices. True to stencil art’s protest roots, Ferland’s work is designed to travel, replicate, and multiply—reminding us that powerful ideas are meant to be shared.
Finally, as part of the month-long street art celebration, Street Wise Arts will curate a pop-up shop in the Bus Stop Artisan Gift Shop, leading into their annual Mural Festival later in September. (More info: Street Wise Arts).
Together, To The Moon by SMiLE, alongside CLS, Justin Ferland, and Street Wise Arts, showcases the dynamism and accessibility of street art—from gallery walls to city streets. This September, Boulder’s NoBo Art District is not just presenting exhibitions; it is affirming that street art belongs everywhere: in our neighborhoods, our galleries, and our shared imagination.
