Born and raised in the Deep South, I come from a lineage of plantation owners who enslaved many. The subject of how my family history has influenced me in the present day is an important thread of contemplation in my current creative process. Now residing in Boulder, CO, my art continues to evolve through my life experience as a psychotherapist, a mother, and a fearless entrepreneur.
My work is deeply influenced by the raw, intangible presence that exists between people, places, and the stories of our collective past. I refer to this as the “We Space”—an invisible, timeless realm that comes to life through connection, relationships, and the weight of history. It is a subtle, numinous space that cannot be seen but can be felt. I embody this space in my paintings through deep layers of color and texture, often using oil paints to evoke a sense of depth, resonance, and timelessness.
The rich colors and paint loosely applied with a palette knife serve to capture the ever-changing, dynamic form of this “We Space”. The unpredictability of the paint helps me convey the fluidity of time and the eternal nature of our connections.
Through my paintings, I invite you to step into this “We Space” and to reflect on the sacred and unseen dimensions in your own life.
