Exploring Ecological Culture with Darya Warner + Millicent Kang

Darya Warner + Millicent Kang

Exhibition at NoBo on the Corner

This collaborative exhibition brings together two artists exploring ecological culture and connection across land, community, and personal experience.

Through distinct but complementary approaches, Darya Warner and Millicent Kang create work rooted in ecology, imagination, and the human need to connect. Together, their work reflects on how we relate to place, to one another, and to the systems that sustain us.

The Living Line: Seeds of Renewal by Darya Warner

Darya Warner’s project, The Living Line: Seeds of Renewal, responds to Boulder’s ecological and cultural identity by weaving together its land, history, and future. The work reflects both the preservation of open space and the ongoing complexities of equity, housing, and access tied to that history.

The project transforms the Blue Line into a series of living sculptures made from clay, ash, and embedded native seeds. These materials connect directly to place, referencing local soils, wildfire, and ecological regeneration. The sculptures are not static—they evolve over time, germinating and growing into living forms that embody cycles of memory, care, and renewal.

The work extends beyond the gallery through community participation. Workshops invite participants to contribute drawings that are transformed into bioprinted sculptures, connecting individual creativity to a collective, evolving installation. As the sculptures are relocated into community gardens, the project continues to grow within shared public spaces.
Connection, Joy, and Possibility

About Millicent Kang

Millicent Kang’s work centers on connection through vibrant, mixed media paintings that explore joy, optimism, and possibility. Her practice draws from nature, meditation, and interpersonal relationships, creating visual messages that are life-affirming and encouraging.

Her Garden Delights series incorporates layers of acrylic paint with etchings, beads, and collaged elements. The paintings depict flowers, birds, and garden imagery, combining representational forms with moments of surprise, playfulness, and connection.

Each piece is intended to brighten spaces and encourage viewers to engage more deeply with their own lives and relationships.

Community Engagement and Workshops

The Living Line: Seeds of Renewal will feature an interactive, artist-led workshops designed to engage residents of all ages, backgrounds, and experiences—including students, local artists, gardeners, families, and community members from diverse socioeconomic and cultural contexts.

Participants will contribute drawings, which the custom bioprinter will transform into living clay-and-ash sculptures embedded with native seeds. This hands-on process allows participants to directly shape the artwork, connecting personal creativity to a collective, evolving installation. Workshops will also include discussions about local ecology, native plant species, and the importance of pollinators, providing educational value alongside creative participation. Workshops will take place indoors at NoBo on the Corner, where the sculptures will germinate under protective domes. After seedlings are established, they will be relocated to Boulder community gardens, offering participants an ongoing connection to the living sculptures and their growth. This process fosters an inclusive, intergenerational dialogue, enabling residents to observe and care for their creations as they transition from symbolic objects into living, regenerative entities.
