Julie Rothschild
Julie experiments with fiber and steel to create material choreographies. As a young dancer, student and athlete, she saw dance vocabulary in everything, and still does. Dynamism everywhere. Nothing static. Ever curious about the myriad of ways we move in relationship to our environments and each other, Julie lives in a creative discipline encompassing the constant input she experiences while balancing her love of and desire for nothingness/emptiness.  Julie makes dances and artworks to materialize her questions and discoveries.

Prior to her family’s move to Boulder, CO in 2009, her home towns include Palo Alto, CA; Urbana, OH; Lawrence, KS; Charlottesville, VA; and Athens, GA. From Julie’s upbringing on a berry farm in Ohio, to every town she has visited and lived in, the interconnectedness between each of these landscapes and communities is a steady dance partner.

Show Statement
Body at Work is an ongoing investigation into the movement of making art. In her practice, Julie experiments with time, space, tension, strength, improvisation and memory. Moving on and within a grid is foundational in her dance practice as well as with the materials she manipulates.
