Artist, painter Lisa Nesmith creates richly textured paintings in encaustic, (hot pigmented beeswax) and collage. References to time, place and memory occur frequently in her work. Her current body of work reflects a life-long fascination with maps, their abstract symbols and references to place.
Ms. Nesmith’s approach to painting is physical and process oriented. Encaustic and collage are an integral piece of the process, a spontaneous unfolding journey. She explores the dimensional qualities of her medium, adding layers, then incising and carving away;; producing heavily worked surfaces of color, pattern and movement.
Ms. Nesmith earned her BFA in textile design from Boston University’s Program in Artisanry and continued her art studies at the San Francisco Art Institute.
Settling in Boulder over 25 years ago, Ms. Nesmith is a regular participant in The Longmont Studio Tour and Boulder Open Studios, both juried events. More recently, she creates public engagement events hosting regional, national and international artists on First Fridays from her studio-gallery, Studio 1510 located in the NoBo Art District.
